Abstract
One of the modern discussions of crime involves an interdisciplinary phenomenon known as crime-prone areas, a concept framed by economic, social, and cultural roots, and the causal relationship between these factors and the occurrence of disorders and crimes in urban areas. This research, which is of a survey type and applied in its objective, investigates the issue. The statistical population includes law enforcement personnel in Babol, consisting of all senior officers, junior officers, non-commissioned officers, and employees in 2023, totaling 367 individuals. Based on Cochran's formula, 187 people were selected as the sample size through random sampling. From four police stations and seven posts in Babol, 18 officers from each police station and 17 officers from each post were randomly chosen to answer the questionnaire. A researcher-made questionnaire was used as the research tool. To examine the normality of the variables, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test was applied. Since the variables did not follow a normal distribution, non-parametric tests, including Chi-square and Friedman, were employed to analyze the study’s hypotheses. The results of the hypothesis testing indicated that, from the police's perspective, economic factors, demographic characteristics, and the moral and educational patterns of residents in crime-prone areas are related to the occurrence of crimes in these regions. The findings confirm many theoretical foundations in the fields of economics, sociology, social sciences, and criminology, and also demonstrate the necessity of adopting the modern approach of "social and environmental prevention" in these areas.
